Recycling made simple

Welcome to Simpler Recycling at The Flower Cottage! We're committed to making recycling easy and impactful for our community. We want everyone to understand the importance of reducing waste and contributing to a sustainable future through our easy recycling initiatives.

Addressing our recycling concerns

At The Flower Cottage, we have simplified waste management by partnering with B&M Waste Services. They have provided us with four waste bins for easy separation: food waste, general waste, dry mix recycling, and offensive waste. We incorporate the use of these bins into our daily routine with the children, ensuring proper waste disposal. Our waste is collected every two weeks, allowing us to separate business waste from household waste. This practice will become mandatory for all home-based businesses in March 2027, but we have chosen to start early to confidently adhere to the Simpler Recycling scheme.

Duty Of Care certificate:

At The Flower Cottage, we hold a Duty of Care certificate for our waste collections to ensure that all waste, including general, recyclable, and potentially hazardous materials, is managed safely, legally, and responsibly. This certificate demonstrates our commitment to protecting the health and safety of children, staff, and the wider community, as well as the environment. It ensures that any waste generated by the setting is collected, stored, transported, and disposed of in compliance with current legislation, reducing the risk of contamination or harm. Holding this certification is part of our overall safeguarding and health and safety responsibilities, reinforcing our professional standards and providing reassurance to parents and carers that the setting operates in a safe and responsible way.

Our promise at the Flower Cottage

At The Flower Cottage, we've made recycling an integral part of our daily routine by providing clear instructions to our children. From scraping leftover food into a waste caddy to sorting general waste and recyclables into the correct bins, we ensure that recycling is second nature. Additionally, we incorporate reusing into our play experiences. This effort is truly worthwhile as it helps create a more sustainable environment for our children, reduces landfill waste, and reinforces our commitment to eco-friendly practices.
